In the first quarter of 2014, Swedish sawmills exported about 3 million cubic meters of sawn and planed lumber, 8.9% more than in the same quarter of last year. In July 2011, the Swedish sawmills have not benefited from – in comparison to other European countries – low log prices. Lumber exports fell year on year by 13.4% to 910,300 cubic meters. Almost twice as high (-26%) was the decline of the planed goods. This development puts further pressure on export prices.

After a strong May, exports of Swedish sawmills has slowed significantly in June. A total of 1.03 million cubic meters were sold abroad, which were 14.2% less than in the reference month last year. In the first half of 2011, exports were 6.12 million cubic meters, representing an increase of 3.6%. The price pressure on all product lines continues. The average prices realized in June, fell even slightly stronger than in May.

The weak euro measured by the Swedish Krona compensates for price increases in softwood lumber. Compared to January 2011, there are slight price increases in the Swedish export statistics for both, total exports (rough and planed) and rough pine lumber. This statement is valid for the Swedish Krona values. Translated into euros, it remains only a small price increase or even a decline. Accordingly, deliveries in the euro zone are over the previous year: France +2.7%, Germany +16% or the Netherlands +4.7%. In 2010, Swedish softwood lumber exports declined by 6.5%. Especially, deliveries to UK were strongly struck. They fell by 16.9%. France also recorded losses of 13%, higher than the average losses. In contrast, deficit for deliveries to Germany were moderate and amounted to 7%.

Despite the crisis in Levant States in January, Sweden's softwood lumber exports were up 4.7% compared to the reference month last year. Over all, rough and planed goods, a total of 836,000 m³ were exported. However, prices have fallen further.

In November, Swedish lumber and planed lumber exports amounted to 1 million m³, down 1.7% compared to the reference month in 2010. Export deficit in the period of January to November reduced slightlly to -6.8% (10.7 million m³). In the main export market of Great Britain, cutback also decreased sligthly to -16.8% (Jan-Nov) compared to -17.2% for January to October.
