Germany: Price of wood pellets stagnates

It seems that the winter season has no impact on the price of wood pellets in Germany. In January 2016, the price remains stable at 241.70 EUR/t. Compared with December 2015, it is up only by 0.6%. Compared with January 2015, the price is 5.5% lower. Pellets still have a price advantage over natural gas by approximately 25 percent. However, oil is currently around 27% cheaper than pellets. 

In January 2016, on a regional basis in southern Germany the price of pellets is the lowest. For 6 tonnes purchases the price is currently 239..98 EUR/t. In central Germany the price is now 241.21 EUR/t. while in north/east the highest price has been reported (246.87 EUR/t).

Larger quantities (26 t) were traded on the following terms: south:224.04 EUR/t; center: 224.04 EUR/t; north/east: 227.83 EUR/t (all including VAT).
