Germany: Spruce log prices gain momentum

AlternativtextThe German producer price indices for spruce mainly picked up speed in January 2021. On average, the price of the wood species increased by 4% compared to December 2020 to a level of 65.5 points. In B quality, it remained true to its upward trend of the previous month with +0.9% to 70.9 points, although with a length of 3 m it hardly achieved more (+0.4% to 71.5 points), but with 2 m (+1% to 67.9 points) and 4/5 m (+1.2% to 73.2 points).

C logs shot up in January by 8.7% to 57.7 meters, with lengths of 2 m (+15.5% to 55.1 m) and 4/5 m (+7,8% at 61.2 m) contributed the most. Lengths of 3 m fetched 5.5% higher prices and landed at 59.3 points.

AlternativtextSpruce pulpwood, on the other hand, fell by 4.1% to 46.3 points compared to December 2020. Compared to January 2020, the index was 17% behind. In C quality, the species was still 3% lower than the price in the same month of the previous year and B logs achieved 8% less.
