In 2014 Russian pellet production came up to 892,800 tonnes and grew by 24.7% against the 2013 figures. In terms of pellets production volumes variation by the Federal Districts, the lead in production volumes was taken by the Northwestern Federal District - it's share in the total Russian pellet production equalled 63%. The Siberian Federal District production accounted for 14%, while the Central Federal District manufactured 9% of all pellets in Russia in 2014, says the report of DISCOVERY Research Group.

Despite the production volumes increase, in 2014 exports of the Russian pellets went down both in value and volume terms.

However, situation may change, since the hike in pellet production is expected in Arkhangelsk and Irkutsk regions by the end of 2015. Thus, according to the Arkhangelsk Region government's statistics, in Q1 2015 local sites manufactured 40,000 tonnes of pellets, which is the indicative of a 60% growth year on year. According to experts' estimates, by the end of the current year, the total pellet production in the region volume will surpass 170,000 tonnes.

As to Irkutsk region, in late 2015 two new pellet production sites are expected to be launched. Russian Timber Group is engaged in construction of pellet plants at the sites of the plant LDK-Igirma (Novaya Igirma) and Trans-Siberian Forest Company (Ust-Kut). The annual capacity of the plants will come up to 115 thousand tons and 85 thousand tons per year respectively.
